DETROIT — Shopping around for health insurance can really pay off.
Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan will launch a program Jan. 1 that will reward preferred provider organization (PPO) members who “shop around for care, compare costs and chose affordable services to meet their needs,” according to a release.
Blue Cross Rewards provides more than 520,000 of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan commercial PPO group members the ability to earn e-gift cards “by choosing providers who deliver services at affordable prices for select, non-emergency procedures.”
To participate, PPO members log in to their online account at www.bcbsm.com or on the BCBSM mobile app. Members need to search for a reward-eligible procedure and sign up for the reward offered for each service.
A green trophy symbol next to any provider signifies a reward-eligible provider location. After the service with an eligible provider is completed and the claim processed, members will receive an e-gift card of between $25 and $75 in value — up to a total of $550 per member per calendar year.
More than 140 non-emergency imaging and outpatient services are available for “price comparison and incentives,” according to the release. Examples include mammograms, ultrasounds, colonoscopies and sinus surgeries.
To check program availability and for more information, Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan members can call their Blue Cross sales representative or agent. More information about Blue Cross is available online at www.bcbsm.com and MiBluesPerspective.com.
