IHG Rewards Club members can book select hotel rooms for as little as 5,000 points per night. The rewards program released the IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks list on July 23, featuring over 100 hotels in the United States and around the world.
IHG Rewards Club PointBreaks is a quarterly program that discounts awards at hundreds of hotels around the world. The discounts represent deep cuts in regular reward levels, but only at a limited number of destinations.
The deal
In the latest edition of PointBreaks, hotel nights are available at three different price points: 5,000, 10,000 and 15,000 IHG Rewards Club points per night. At the lowest tier are lower service hotels, or those a little out of the way. But at the highest level, high-end hotels at popular fall and winter destinations are available. Some of our picks in each category include:
5,000 IHG Rewards Club points:
- Candlewood Suites Aurora-Naperville (near Chicago)
- Holiday Inn Express & Suites Buffalo, New York Downtown
- Holiday Inn Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz, Mexico
- Holiday Inn Express Xalapa, Veracruz, Mexico
10,000 IHG Rewards Club points:
- Holiday Inn Orlando-International Airport
- Holiday Inn Express Las Vegas-Nellis
- Holiday Inn Express & Suites Toronto Airport West
- Holiday Inn Express London – Croydon
15,000 IHG Rewards Club points:

The fine print
Because of the deep discounts and award demand, members are limited to two nights per hotel. Qualifying reservations are available through Sept. 30, 2018. Reward nights can’t be sold or booked for “commercial gains,” and anyone violating the rule could be removed from the program with points forfeited.
Is it a good deal?
In some situations — like the InterContinental Hotels around the world — 15,000 points is a low price for a high-end hotel room. However, the limited number of hotels could make it difficult to find a hotel where travelers are going.
When trip planning, smart travelers should take a look at the IHG PointBreaks list to see if their trips align with a discounted hotel. If so, this can be a great way to get two hotel nights without using too many points.
