How to boost your Velocity Points balance this month

You can reach your next reward faster with up to 30% extra Velocity Points this month.

Velocity is giving members more reason to cash in their partnered rewards for frequent flyer points this month. Under the banner of the “World’s Biggest Points Exchange Expo”, Velocity frequent flyers can score bonus points when they transfer their reward points from partnered programs to their Velocity accounts.

If you go to your card partner, flybuys or hotel partner’s website and exchange your reward points for Velocity Points by 30 November 2017, you’ll score a bonus 15% Velocity Points. ANZ cardholders can receive an extra 15% more points, bringing the total bonus bounty to 30%.

You can see the full list of participating loyalty programs below:

The number of points you can expect will vary depending on how many points you’re transferring and the exchange rates between the programs. To show how the differing exchange rates could impact how many Velocity Points you’ll get, we’ve provided a few examples based on the scenario that you’re transferring 6,000 reward points from some of the participating credit card, retail and hotel rewards programs.

Partner Regular exchange rate Number of Velocity Points you’ll get when you transfer 6,000 points during the promotional period
American Express
  • 1 Velocity Point per 1 Membership Rewards point for Ascent or Ascent Premium members*
  • 1 Velocity Point per 2 David Jones American Express Reward Points*
  • 3 Velocity Points per 4 Membership Rewards points for Membership Rewards Gateway members

*Minimum of 2,000 points per transfer

  • 6,900 Velocity Points
  • 3,450 Velocity Points
  • 5,175 Velocity Points
ANZ Rewards 2 ANZ Rewards for 1 Velocity Point 3,967.65 Velocity Points
Bank of Queensland 2 BOQ Rewards for 1 Velocity Point 3,450 Velocity Points
Citi 2.5 Citi Rewards for 1 Velocity Point 2,760 Velocity Points
HSBC 2 HSBC Rewards for 1 Velocity Point 3,450 Velocity Points
Suncorp 2 Suncorp Rewards for 1 Velocity Point 3,450 Velocity Points
flybuys 2,000 flybuys for 870 Velocity Points (approx 1 flybuys per 0.43 Velocity Points) 3,001.5 Velocity Points
Starwood Preferred Guest 1 Starpoint for 1 Velocity Point 6,900 Velocity Points
Le Club AccorHotels 1 Le Club AccorHotels point for 1 Velocity Point 6,900 Velocity Points

Of course, the more points you’re transferring, the more rewarding this bonus points offer will be. For example, if you’d opted for the Citi Platinum credit card and its current 100,000 bonus points offer you’d see a significant lift in points. If you were to exchange 100k Citi Rewards Points to Velocity at 2.5 Citi Rewards for 1 Velocity Point, you’d usually get 40,000 points. But during this promotional period, this would increase to 46,000 Velocity Points instead. Not bad!

While none of these bonus points are enough to make a massive difference in the reward you could redeem, it’s an easy way to collect more points without spending any extra money. This is especially important considering some of the less than impressive exchange rates you can usually expect when transferring credit card rewards to Velocity Points on a regular day.

So, if you’ve been hoarding your credit card rewards, flybuys points or hotel rewards, this could be the right time to exchange them for Velocity Points.
