TAMPA As a promotion for its new rewards program, Winn-Dixie and its parent company will give out 100 tanks of free gas this morning.
At 10 a.m., Southeastern Grocers announced where drivers could start lining up to get a free fill-up valued at up to $40: a Shell station at 3650 S. Dale Mabry Hwy. in Tampa.
The free gas will be dispensed to the first 100 drivers starting at 11 a.m.
The new loyalty program which will work at Winn-Dixie, Fresco y Más, Bi-LO and Harveys Supermarket locations allows shoppers to use earned points on groceries and gas at participating Shell gas stations.
“We are committed to providing a shopping experience our customers can count on,” Southeastern Grocers CEO Anthony Hucker said. “SE Grocers rewards will allow customers to redeem savings on fuel and groceries, combining the two greatest reward aspects our customers have told us mean the most to them.”
Last week during a similar promotion in Jacksonville, Southeastern gave out 100 tanks of gas in less than an hour. A line of cars wrapped around the plaza into the road.
The value of unredeemed Plenti points under the former system will be issued to the new SE Grocers cards for registered customers. The new reward system allows points to be good for up to two years.
Shoppers who go to Shell stations and swipe their new rewards card and receive “Gold Status” can save 5 cents per gallon on every fill up to 20 gallons.
