TO THE EDITOR:
“GM slashes bonuses for dealership sales staff” (Feb. 5) was interesting, especially in light of all the U.S. tax bill bonuses other corporations are providing to employees from the windfall they recently received.
An important omission might be that General Motors’ Standards For Excellence program for 2018 restricts the salesperson’s bonus on the vehicle overall to zero dollars if the salesperson cannot convince a client to accept membership in the GM Rewards program.
As a top salesperson award winner numerous times over 25 years, I have extensive experience with clients and have received feedback that a measurable percentage choose not to enroll in loyalty programs and at times give out their emails only to be inundated with announcements.
This is rather disappointing news for longtime salespeople who stuck by GM during the collapse of 2008 only to have the pay bonus now cut with the economy roaring.
Let’s hope someone important at GM has the good sense to review this program and help support the people on the front lines across America that assist every day to keep the factories going and put new cars in driveways across our country.
