PLAINFIELD, IL — This month, the Plainfield Public Library District became Illinois’ first library to launch the My Library Rewards program, making your library card an even better bargain. In addition to free access to books, movies and music, you can now earn discounts on food, recreation, gym memberships and more.
The program is currently offered at the Plainfield Public Library and over the next few weeks will also be offered at White Oak, Joliet, Lemont, Shorewood and Fountaindale Libraries. These six libraries, known as the Pinnacle Library Cooperative, work together to provide over 1.3 million items to their customers. Points can be earned at any of these libraries’ locations and be redeemed in the different communities.
Customers automatically earn 10 points for each book, movie or audiobook they check-out, up to 100 points per week. Families are able to link their cards and combine their points. Then, points can be redeemed to receive discounts and special offers at participating local businesses.
“People seem to really be enjoying the program. Since our soft launch in mid-April we have over 150 people signed up” said Library Director, Lisa Pappas.
More than 40 local businesses have signed so far to offer rewards. Offers range from a percentage off, buy one get one free and even free items. One more perk, your points are also good in other cities–just bring up the app on your phone while you are traveling and see what is available.
“Customers are not required to take part in the rewards program,” Pappas said, but she added that, “participating will make having a library card more valuable.”
Customers can register with their library card number at MyLibraryRewards.com, or by downloading the app on their mobile device.
