Schnucks’ new rewards program: 2 percent cash back

Posted on August 1, 2018 by Rewards

CHAMPAIGN — After eliminating its popular fuel-rewards program, the Schnucks grocery chain replaced it Wednesday with a 2 percent cash-back rewards program.

For every dollar spent on groceries, customers will earn 10 points toward their Schnucks Rewards. Once they accrue 1,000 points for $100 spent, they can redeem the resulting $2 off at checkout or let the points accumulate — up to 200,000, or $500.

“This allows us to have a consistent program across the company,” said spokesman Paul Simon. “We just encourage customers to give it a try.”

The fuel-rewards program allowed customers to save a nickel per gallon pumped at Schnucks-branded gas stations for every $25 spent at the grocery stores, but was only available at a few of Schnucks’ 100-plus stores, including the ones in Champaign, Urbana and Savoy.

With the new program, customers can rack up points at any of the stores on most purchases, with exceptions for things such as lottery tickets, tobacco, third-party gift cards, Schnucks Delivers orders and wire transfers.

Schnucks is also launching a Schnucks Rewards mobile app, which will display a barcode for customers to scan at checkout. They can also register with their phone number.

“Mobile apps are the direction the industry is headed when it comes to offering savings programs,” Simon said.

While customers are no longer able to earn savings toward the fuel-rewards program, already-accumulated rewards may still be used through Oct. 29.

More information on the new Schnucks Rewards program is available at its website.
